Birmingham is situated in the middle of the UK and is a major international commercial centre. It’s the birthplace of tennis and heavy metal music, it’s where J.R.Tolkien (author of Lord of the Rings) spent his childhood, and has Europe’s youngest population, with nearly 40% of the city’s inhabitants being under 25 years old. There’s so much to do here: you can visit Cadbury World (a museum dedicated to chocolate), soak up the culture of the Birmingham Royal Ballet, visit the biggest collection of jewelry shops in Europe, or sample Birmingham’s famous “Balti” – a curry and rice dish originating from the city. Birmingham has four universities, teaching 78,000 students and producing 111,000 graduates per year.
Fun fact: Birmingham has 35 miles of canals… and that’s more than Venice.
